Me in my backyard with one of my beloved granddaughters 💜

I am a fan of hidden worlds. It’s what first attracted me to reading. As a kid I loved being alone in the quiet, filling my head with so many ideas, sounds, images, and people riding around my imagination on those mysterious waves of words. I soon began to create hidden worlds of my own, filling volumes of pages, single-spaced in my burgeoning cursive.

I managed to make it to college with a placement in advanced writing and I’m sad to say, that is where I lost my confidence. My grades were poor and I felt hindered by my peer feedback. I was at an age where I was looking desperately for a niche, and sadly this bad experience prompted me to put my writing aside.

But don’t worry. I became many things. I got my BA in East Asian Studies and taught English in Japan after college. My husband and I had two sons who I homeschooled for many years. I then got my Master's in Elementary Education and taught kindergarten for a few years in local public schools. That was a lot of work and wonderful in so many ways, but not a great fit for me. I find myself now taking care of my baby granddaughter and squeezing in time to write.

My first book is a collection of short stories for young children. It was a labor of love, putting to pen some beloved characters first created years ago as bedtime stories for my own children. I was lucky enough to have a wonderful illustrator help bring some of that world to a visual life on the pages. I am very proud of this gorgeous book.

My second book is a collection of poems I wrote not long ago during a very challenging year and a half of my life. This work, paired with my own photos, is deeply personal and was very healing to write, compile, and put out into the world.

Thank you for being here. I hope you enjoy my work.
